Bosendorfer Camellia
7' Art Case Grand Piano
The East Asian Camellia bushes have long been treasured around the world for their rich floral colours, intoxicating scents and for their role in producing some of the world's finest black and green teas. They were so revered in European society that Empress Maria Theresia and her husband Franz I. Stephan brought an eqcuisite collection of camellias to their palace greenhouse in Vienna. For 100 years, these flowers were viewed as symbols of the Austrian Monarchy. They were such cultural icons that - in 1853 - Giuseppe Verdi set the novel Camille by Alexandre Dumas to music - thus creating one of the most iconic operas in the history of music: La traviata. To honor this global heritage, Bosendorfer decided to enshrine the beautity and symbolism of these glorious specimens into the lid of a 214VC Bosendorfer Artisan Piano. Only 18 will ever be created and you can see this stunning piano exclusively at Riverton Piano Company.
The intricate patterns of flowers, leaves and stems inlaid in the underside of the piano's lid are hand-fitted into the piano's finish using sumptuous specimens of tulip, sycamore, ash and walnut. Artisans at Bosendorfer then apply a traditional sand shading technique that gives the artwork a breathtaking three-dimensional quality. Camellia is a singular masterpiece of form and function - equal to the greatest wonders of our modern society.
